EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Jennifer McCaney, PhD
Dr. Jennifer McCaney is the Executive Director of UCLA Biodesign and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the UCLA Anderson School of Management. She is an Associate Director of the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and the Co-lead of the CTSI Discovery to Product Initiative. McCaney leads innovation at UCLA Health and key initiatives to advance technology development and health equity within the institution, including the UCLA Health TechQuity Accelerator. Her research and teaching expertise are at the intersection of healthcare innovation, medical technology, and policy. McCaney is the recipient of two federal grants from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to catalyze the development of medical technology and workforce development training in healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship. She was the founding Director of the MedTech Innovator Accelerator, a 501(c)3 non-profit, which she grew from an initial cohort of 20 companies to over 200 alumni with a combined $1B in funding in 4 years. McCaney is a member of the West Coast Consortium for Technology & Innovation in Pediatrics Steering Committee and the Scale Health Advisory Committee and was named a 2023 Modern Healthcare Top 25 Innovators. A Fulbright Scholar, McCaney completed her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at Stanford University and M.S. in biomedical engineering from the University of New South Wales. She holds an M.S. and B.S. in mechanical engineering from MIT, where she was a Draper Fellow, and a B.S. from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
