UCLA Biodesign Process

UCLA Biodesign Fellows follow a three-stage development process that forms the cornerstone of their entrepreneurial journey. Over the course of the year-long fellowship, trainees learn the fundamentals of product development – We follow the UCLA Biodesign Model listed below.

The UCLA Biodesign Fellowship is an exciting year-long entrepreneurial opportunity at a world-class health organization.  UCLA Biodesign utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to assemble a team of fellows that tackle some of today’s most challenging clinical needs.  

Discovery Fellowship

The UCLA Biodesign Discovery Fellowship is a full-time, year-long training program designed for aspiring healthcare innovators who want to learn how to identify unmet clinical needs and develop transformative healthcare solutions.

Accelerator Fellowship

The UCLA Biodesign Accelerator Fellowship is a part-time venture acceleration program designed for innovators who already have a healthcare technology concept, prototype, startup, or intellectual property and are ready to advance toward commercialization

UCLA Biodesign AI combines rigorous training in foundational data science at the intersection between AI applications in healthcare and software engineering.

DGSOM Discovery

DGSOM Discovery is a mandatory part of the M.D. curriculum, offering medical students dedicated time for an in-depth and meaningful creative and scholarly experience in their chosen field.

Fellows participate in a bi-weekly programming that consists of directed workshops and ecosystem events featuring key opinion leaders and experienced entrepreneurs.
