Abbas Ardehali, MD

Dr. Abbas Ardehali is a Professor of Surgery and Medicine in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Director of the Heart, Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant Programs at The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In addition, Dr. Ardehali holds the William E. Conner Chair in Cardiothoracic Transplantation. Dr. Ardehali has received many awards including the American Heart Association, Established Investigator Award, and the Second Alfred Blalock Research Scholarship Award from the American Association for Thoracic surgery. He has also been recognized for his contribution to resident and student teaching, earning the Golden Apple Teaching Award at UCLA. Among his many honors, Dr. Ardehali has received a Resolution of Commendation by the California State Assembly, the Breath of Life Award from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and was the recipient of Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2017.Dr. Ardehali is the author of numerous book chapters and more than 200 peer reviewed manuscripts and abstracts. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Surgical Research and he is a reviewer for many journals including Circulation, and the Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. He has been the Chair of the Steering Committee for several multi-center international studies in the field of heart & lung transplantation. His research interests are ex-vivo organ perfusion in heart and lung transplantation.
