UCLA Anderson School of Management is hosting “Using Good AI to Fight Evil AI in Healthcare” – a fireside with Tucker Herbert MBA ’14. For more details, see below (original text from Anderson website).

The future has arrived.  AI is determining the fate of human lives; while it may not appear as dramatic as envisioned in Terminator, the challenge is just as real.

There is increasing awareness of how some algorithms have reinforced healthcare disparities given the bias of historical data they were trained on.  This can hinder the adoption of innovative therapies and have grave consequences on patients’ lives.

Fortunately, others are countering this by leveraging AI and data to:

  • Shed light on healthcare disparities and support advocacy to close gaps,
  • Enable a deeper understanding of patients’ needs to design personalized solutions, and
  • Identify patients with rare diseases using predictive models and connect them to trials for previously untreatable conditions.

Healthcare Alumni of Anderson’s Inspired Discourse Series features a brief introduction to key trends impacting healthcare and is designed to inspire discussions that lead to meaningful connections among Anderson Alumni. These events consist of a 15 minute presentation, a 15 minute Q&A and a 20 minute breakout discussion that connects you to other Anderson Alumni in healthcare.  (Connect with HAA on LinkedIn).

Tucker Herbert MBA ’14, has focused on data-driven commercialization strategy for healthcare / life sciences since his time at Anderson, and has seen first hand the incredible potential for artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics to improve patients’ lives, which is why he joined Komodo Health – a mission-driven HealthTech startup, focused on reducing the global burden of disease through technology. Prior to Komodo, Tucker worked in life science consulting (ZS and Deloitte), and grew an ecommerce startup, following undergrad at Stanford.  (Connect with Tucker on LinkedIn).
