The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is convening a research funding workshop in partnership with Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in a virtual platform. The workshop will provide research funding information from several Institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) including NIAID, National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI).

The workshop will include information about the NIH grant process, funding opportunities that would be of particular interest to pre and post-doctoral fellows, clinician-scientists, as well as early-stage and mid-career research investigators. The two-day workshop will also include information about the NIAID and other Institute’s scientific agendas, successful tips for writing career awards, introduction to the small business arena, NIH peer review process, mentoring, career opportunities, advice on how to write a successful grant application, and advice for transitioning to positions in academia.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday 18, – Thursday 20, May 2021 via a virtual platform. The purpose of the workshop is to allow for the exchange of science; to impart information on applying for research project grants; to acquaint attendees with the opportunities and options open to them in the field of biomedical research; to receive feedback from attendees on ways to improve NIAID/NIH fellowship and career programs; and to discuss research and training programs offered by the participating NIH institutes.
