Join Surbhi Sarna as she sits down with UCLA Biodesign’s Medtech & Digital Health Innovation Hub to share her entrepreneurial journey from a healthy, young adolescent to a patient to an impatient entrepreneur to a $275MM exit.

When she was 13, Surbhi was a patient. It was then that she realized she wanted to fill the void in female-health related innovation. She attended UC Berkeley, where she studied Molecular and Cell Biology and conducted extensive research in Bioengineering. Once graduating, she worked as an engineer for Abbott Vascular and then another device start-up. Finally, she decided to tackle some of the issues she witnessed in women’s health and became CEO and founder of nVision Medical. nVision developed a catheter-based device for early detection of ovarian cancer. After raising $17M in venture funding, completing several clinical trials and obtaining FDA clearance, nVision was purchased by Boston Scientific for $275M in April of 2018. Now, in addition to being a full-time leader at Boston Scientific and a Venture Partner at Catalyst Health Ventures, she is also a board member at Penumbra (PEN), Astia, Draper University and the Harker School. Surbhi has authored numerous patents, been an invited speaker at universities including UCSF, Stanford and Harvard, and has been featured in publications such as Bloomberg, Forbes, Entrepreneur Magazine, Inc Magazine and GigaOm. Finally, she has been given numerous awards including being named on the Forbes 30 under 30 list, the Inc Female Founder 100 list, the Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry QMED 30 under 30 innovator list, the University of California, Berkeley spotlight alumni of the class of 2007 (awarded at the ten-year anniversary), and the Ferolyn Powell Leadership award.
