2019 – 2020 DISCOVERY FELLOW

Alexandra Stavrakis, MD

Alexandra Stavrakis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at UCLA and also serves as the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at the Greater Los Angeles VA.  Her research interests include the prevention and treatment of prosthetic joint infections as well as studying hip stability as it relates to total hip arthroplasty as well as the development and evaluation of the efficacy of various antimicrobial implant coating materials in preventing prosthetic joint infections following arthroplasty.  A graduate of the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, Alexandra also completed her orthopaedic surgery residency training and orthopaedic research fellowship at UCLA.  After completing subspecialty training in arthroplasty surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery at Cornell she returned to UCLA to join the faculty.  Alexandra complete her BS in biochemistry at the University of Southern California.
